Captain – Aaron O’Reilly
Aaron has been a member of NUIG Sailing for the last four years. He has started three separate degrees but has finally chosen Commerce as ‘the one’ and is now in his third year and is currently on work placement with O’Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers. He has held many positions on the committee in the last number of years starting as Treasurer, then Captain, then Vice Captain and now he is back in the hot seat with an optimistic vision for the club. Need a boat launched? Call Aaron! His sparking new jeep would pull a shipping container across the continent! Hails from Galway Bay Sailing Club.
Vice-Captain & Treasurer – Karl Glynn
Karl, the Kilrush ganster is our resident money bags man and keeps the keys to the safe close to heart. Karl had a gentle introduction to NUIG Sailing in 2016 and has since contributed a tremendous amount to the club. He joined the committee as Safety and Equipment Officer and dedicated a huge amount of time and effort to tagging and counting our inventory of over 500 boats and boat parts. Karl handles all payments to and from the club so if you owe money or are owed money, make contact with this accounting genius!
Secretary – Sean Mahon
Mr Mahon is another of our long standing club members. Sean looks after our Facebook page, Email newsletters and all general correspondence from the club to its members. Hailing from Courtown Sailing Club in Co. Wexford, Sean brings a mixed bag of skills to the club. His narration skills are second to none so if you ever find yourself in a quite place and Seany is around, pick up a newspaper or a leaflet of any description and give it to this melodic man to make magical music ring from your ears.
Equipment & Safety Officer and First Year Rep
Training Officer – Jack Ryan
We’re not quite sure what the ‘Bowne’ is in reference to but Jack surely does make people turn red as he pushes them to their limit when it comes to anything team racing related. Be it a protest flag, race mark or a dinghy, Jack is skilled in the art of team race coaching and has shown his true colours so far this year as our teams have progressed steadily up the leaderboard at each of the team racing events we have competed. Jack hails from either Lough Ree or Lough Derg Yacht club (TBC)!
Assistant Training Officer/ OCM – Ronan Armstrong
We are not too sure if this really is our darling Ronan in the photo but since it is his profiler on Facebook, Lets assume it is him. Ronan joined NUIG Sailing in 2016. Since then, he has skippered our Keelboat squad to third place in the Student Yachting Nationals, Competed at numerous team racing inter varsity events and delivered multiple yachts from here to there. As OCM, Ronan doesn’t have that much work to do. So… We’ve given him a few remedial tasks to help pass the time. Ronan is responsible for keeping our committee meetings run on time and he also plans to organise some yacht sailing for the club. Ronan has sailed around Ireland on a number of occasions and his goal for the club is to enter a team to the Bi-Annual Round Ireland Yacht Race. Ronan was born and raised in the Sligo Yacht Club. Sailing is in his blood!
